Takmila — Support

Takmila is an Islamic mindfulness app for iPhone and iPad: prayer times, Qibla, du'aas from the Qur'an and Sunnah, and optional Screen Time breaks.

If you need help, please email ymasad2003@gmail.com. A real person reads every message; replies usually come within a few days.

Common questions

My Qibla compass spins or seems wrong.

  1. Step away from speakers, magnetic phone cases, MagSafe accessories, and large metal objects.
  2. Calibrate the compass by waving the phone in a figure-eight motion when iOS asks.
  3. Make sure Location Services and Motion & Fitness are enabled for Takmila in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security.

If it still feels wrong, please email with the city you're in so we can cross-check.

Prayer times look off by a few minutes.

Prayer times depend on your location and the calculation method. Takmila supports MWL, ISNA, Egyptian, Umm al-Qura, and Karachi. Switch methods in Prayers → Settings to match the one your local mosque uses. For Asr, both Standard (Shafi'i/Maliki/Hanbali) and Hanafi madhabs are available.

Boundaries — what is this?

In Takmila, Boundaries lets you pick apps you'd like to use less. After a daily limit you choose (minimum 15 minutes), the app you opened is replaced with a verse and a Close button. To use the app again, open Takmila and complete a brief dhikr, du'aa, or guided breath. The boundary is yours, set by you and lifted by you — Takmila does not enforce or report anything to anyone else.

This uses Apple's Family Controls / Screen Time framework. You authorize it on first use, and can clear or revoke at any time.

Why doesn't tapping "Close" on the shield take me back to Takmila?

It's an Apple limitation. The shield that takes over a blocked app is a special kind of app extension that cannot launch other apps, including Takmila itself. The shield can only dismiss itself. After dismissing, please tap the Takmila icon on your home screen — Takmila will recognise that a shield is active and present the dhikr break automatically.

The Du'aa Companion shows "Apple Intelligence required" — what's that?

The Du'aa Companion uses Apple's on-device language model (part of Apple Intelligence) to suggest du'aas from a fixed catalogue based on what you describe. It runs entirely on your iPhone — your words are not sent anywhere. Apple Intelligence requires iPhone 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max or any iPhone 16-series device, running iOS 18.1 or later, with the device language set to one of Apple's supported languages. If your device doesn't support Apple Intelligence, the rest of Takmila (prayer times, Qibla, Reflect, Boundaries) works the same.

Does Takmila collect any of my data?

No. See the privacy policy. Short version: no account, no analytics, no tracking, no data leaves your device.

How do I delete my data?

Uninstall Takmila and the data goes with it. There is no off-device account.
